History
Burns Recovered founded by group of volunteers, survivors, and staff who were active at the St. John's Mercy Hospital Burn Unit.
1983
Individual and group peer support offered at St. John’s Mercy Hospital (now Mercy Medical Center)
1980s - 1990s
The first Missouri Children’s Burn Camp was help at Camp Sabra in Lake of the Ozarks.
1996
Peer support and assistance programming expands across the State of Missouri and surrounding metropolitan regions.
1990s - 2000s
Camp is held at Camp Taum Sauk for the first time, which continues to be our camp home today.
2012
Camp changed its name to Midwest Children’s Burn Camp (MCBC) to reflect the larger area from which campers who attend live.
2016
Our first Young Adult Retreat was held.
2019
Our VIRTUAL MCBC camp experience was held due to the pandemic
2020
We returned to in person MCBCat Camp Taum Sauk.
2021
MCBC receives accreditation from the American Camp Association.
2021
Our first Family Camp will be held in October 2022
