Event Details:

For teen burn survivors ages 14-17.  This Retreat is in its inaugural year.  The purpose of this Wilderness Retreat is to provide teenage burn survivors with a transformative, wilderness-based experience that fosters resilience, confidence, peer support, and healing. Immersing teens in challenging yet empowering wilderness activities will help strengthen self-esteem and deepen social connections with other burn survivors, encouraging long-term personal growth and living their life to their fullest potential.

This program will meet the unique and often under-served needs of older teen burn survivors, including:

  • Transitioning into adulthood while managing physical and emotional recovery
  • Developing independent coping strategies outside of the school and home as well as in the current Midwest burn community programs
  • Building leadership and decision-making skills
  • Engaging in therapeutic work in a wilderness setting to allow participants to process trauma, build resilience, and reconnect with themselves through the healing power of nature and challenge-based experiences
  • Creating peer bonds with others in a shared experience of trauma and healing

This retreat is free to burn survivors.  Please contact Retreat Director Rocky at rachel@brsg.org with questions or concerns.
