To all Potential Donors:

Hi, my name is Kevin Groh (a.k.a. Sparky).  I am a burn survivor!  On August 23, 1999, I was electrocuted; the electricity went through the back of my neck and out my shins.  I fell 2 stories and landed face down.  That was a blessing since the jolt of falling started my heart beating again.  I spent 2 months and 8 days in a coma at St. John’s Burn Unit.  With the help of my family, friends, Linda & Gary Hansen (from Burns Recovered Support Group), Dr. Michael Smock (God love him!) and the nursing staff I am still here 12 years later!

Along with my good friends at Kenrick’s Meats, Oakville Sports Pub, The Dry Dock Tavern, Fergie’s Bar and Grill, McArthur’s Bakery and my softball team, Sparky’s, we are sponsoring a Meat Raffle.  We are raising money for the expenses of tournaments but more importantly for the Missouri Children’s Burn Camp.  See attached flyer.

I was 37 when my accident happened and will be 50 years old on March 23, 2012.  Wow, how time flies!

I want to thank you in advance for your support.

Kevin Groh (Sparky)

Fill the Helmet:

fill-the-helmetMany of the fire departments in Missouri support Burns Recovered Support Group by participating in the annual Fill the Helmet campaign.  The first fundraiser was conducted in 1997 and involved 13 fire departments, primarily in the county of St. Louis, and raised $11,891.  The campaign has grown to include fire departments throughout the state and has generated over $800,000 in support of the mission of BRSG.

Most departments hold their fundraiser the first weekend in May; however, there are departments that conduct their campaigns at other times of the year.  The majority of departments have some form of boot/helmet block, while others have barbecues, pancake breakfasts, car washes and other types of fundraising events.

The money raised, with the help of firefighters, is used by BRSG to help burn survivors and their families and provide burn prevention/education programs.  The money raised comes back to the communities we live in.

BRSG thanks retired Patton-Bridgeton Terrace Chief Steve Arnold for suggesting that we do Fill the Helmet back in the fall of 1996. Steve helped get the campaign off to a strong start by serving as chairman at its inception.

Fill the Helmet is important to BRSG in attaining its goals.  Become involved with this fundraiser and help BRSG continue with its diverse programs.

BurnAid Golf Classic

burnaid_donationStarted in 2003, the St. Louis Area Sprinkler Contractors and Sprinkler Fitters Local #268 have sponsored the BurnAid Golf Classic.  This event has been established to fund programs and services to benefit Missouri Children’s Burn Camp.  Denny Webb started this annual event and continues to spearhead it’s sucess.  As part of the tournament  the Sprinkler Fitters Local #268 has donated more than $190,000 since the first BurnAid Golf Classic.
