At flagpole tonight, the Stallions who are aging out took down the American flag and also the MCBC flag. After 20 years, the Missouri Children’s Burn Camp flag is being retired and a new Midwest Children’s Burn Camp flag will be raised in 2017. All the campers signed the old MCBC flag at the dance.
The Stallion campers who are aging out also created a beautiful, new Midwest Children’s Burn Camp sign with the help of Counselor Axe that will sit at the intersection of the boys and girls village, so everyone at camp can see and enjoy it.
We had our closing campfire at Inspiration Point. Counselors were honored for their years of service and given gifts. At the twig ceremony, counselors and campers had the chance to dedicate a twig to someone and toss it in to the fire. Many twigs were dedicated to family, friends and MCBC counselors and campers.
At the dance, Merry Mary was back to paint faces and tattoos on campers. Everyone danced and sang along to songs from 1997 and today. Counselors taught campers the Macarena and campers taught counselors how to hit the quan.
We’ve had a wonderful week at MCBC full of fun, friends, family and memories. We can’t wait to come back for our 21st summer in 2017!
