Dear MCBC Families,
As we come to the end of 2020 (can you believe it?!), I wanted to share an update about MCBC 2021 and what we can expect the summer to hold. Most importantly: we are using all of the knowledge and experience from other camp professionals who successfully ran in-person camp in 2020 with the goal of having MCBC in-person in 2021. We are consulting with the American Camping Association, the Association of Camp Nurses, and the medical professionals on our Board of Directors to develop policies and procedures that keep our staff, volunteers, and campers safe and maintain the integrity of the MCBC camp program that we know and love.
There are many details about the 2021 camp season that still need to be ironed out and Maddog and Uncle Larry have already started speaking with Camp Taum Sauk staff about how to run a safe and fun camp next summer. What we do know is that instead of having one, week-long, camp session with all the age groups together, we will have two, shorter sessions, where the campers will be split by age group. The dates and age breakdowns are:
We know this is not an ideal arrangement and that there are many benefits to having the age-groups mix together during the week of camp. We also know that smaller groups on campus will make it easier to practice physical distancing, eat meals together, transport campers to off-campus activities, and do other fun camp stuff while reducing the risk of COVID transmission among our camp community. This year will definitely feel different at camp and we have no doubt that our MCBC family can come together and make 2021 as fun and as exciting as any other MCBC session!
This update will be the first of many as our team finalizes plans and protocols and you can expect more emails, posts on our websites, tutorial videos, and phone calls to make sure everyone in our MCBC community is aware of and understands the precautions we are taking. We plan to hold several live Zoom sessions starting in January 2021 where community members can ask their questions so please be on the lookout for that information!
As always, the MCBC team is a phone call or email away if you have any immediate questions. Please call the office at (314) 939-1550 or email Madeleine at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Peace and warm wishes to you and yours this holiday season,
